About the role

We're looking for a Frontend Engineer to join our remote-first engineering team. You'll build the user-facing applications that power Mixedbread's AI search platform — from developer dashboards to interactive documentation. Working with Next.js, React, and TypeScript, you'll craft experiences that make complex AI technology feel intuitive and delightful.

What you'll do

Build and maintain our website and platform applications

• Design and develop intuitive user interfaces that make our AI search workflows accessible and efficient

• Develop interactive playgrounds for embeddings, reranking, and search features

• Optimize frontend performance for sub-second page loads and smooth interactions

• Contribute to our shared component library and design system (shadcn/ui)

• Work with backend engineers to design and consume APIs

• Write clean, maintainable code that scales well

What we're looking for

3+ years of professional frontend development experience

• Expert knowledge of TypeScript, React, and modern JavaScript

• Strong experience with Next.js (App Router preferred)

• Proficiency with Tailwind CSS and modern styling approaches

• Strong eye for design and user experience

• Deep understanding of web performance optimization and Core Web Vitals

• Experience building accessible, responsive interfaces

• Familiarity with state management patterns and data fetching strategies

• Knowledge of modern web development tooling, practices, and trends

• Self-directed with ability to own features from design to deployment

• Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a remote-first environment

Nice to have

Experience with monorepo tools (Turborepo, pnpm workspaces)

• Experience with design systems and component libraries

• Experience with crafting animations and micro-interactions

• Familiarity with real-time technologies (WebSockets, Server-Sent Events)

• Experience with testing frameworks (Vitest, Playwright, Testing Library)

• Understanding of AI/ML concepts, embeddings, or vector search
